Confirmed by Sony.Bandit wrote: Thu May 30, 2019 8:44 pm John Witherspoon announced on Joe Rogan's podcast that Boondocks will be returning.
Sony Pictures Animation announced a “re-imagining” of the animated satire series “The Boondocks” in collaboration with creator Aaron McGruder as part of their presentation at the Annecy Festival 2019 on Wednesday.
“The Boondocks” reboot, which is a co-production with Sony Pictures Television, aims to update the cult, subversive satire for the modern era. It chronicles the adventures of the Freeman family against the evil local government tyrant Uncle Ruckus, who rules the fictional Woodcrest County, Maryland with an iron fist.
FAN FUCKING TASTIC!!!

Season 4 was really lacking without McGruder, and I was wondering what he was up to since Black Jesus appeared to die when Charlie Murphy did.
Now if we can just convince the studios it's the right time for Soul Plane 2: The Blackjacking the world will be at peace!

some damn fine stories came from the What If? line of comics, just hope they dont get stuck unable to do certain ones due to studio issues (though they do seem to be playing happily together at the moment) Punisher with the Venom symbioye probably wont be on the table though, shame as that one was rather fun

You’ll struggle to find many bigger fans than me. But I met this news with: really. REALLY?
The second trump got in to office good comedy writing became entirely redundant...
No matter how good Trey Parker is, no one is THAT good.
#cancel South Park, but not for the reasons people have asked for it to be cancelled for 22 years...
Because I don’t see how a work of comedy can beat the hilarity that’s been coming from America for the past few years.

South Park doesn't mention Trump anymore, so that's not the problem. You're right that Trump comedy is 99% embarrassing since you can't be funnier than a guy who asked if he could nuke a hurricane and talks shit about the daughter he doesn't like during White House meetings for no reason, so then you're left with godawful SNL skits with Alec Baldwin. But South Park isn't what it used to be because it's hard to be relevant when you're 50 years old doing the same thing you were doing when you were 30 years old. They had more good seasons than the Simpsons, but still, it's probably impossible to make a good season when you've got the same characters for the past 22 years. They're talking about working on a new movie they're excited about, though.

Re: TV Shows: Renewed, Axed, Picked Up + News
It's a lot easier to be cutting edge when you're the upstart 30 year olds that no one wanted to hire. I'd agree that it's just a natural progression of decline after writing a show for 20 years. Say what you will about Trump sketches on SNL, that show will live on because of its constant turnover in the writing department. I'd argue that there are still classic skits every episode, but no one watches the whole show after the constant Trump-centric cold opens.
I also don't think politics has ever been South Park's forte, Matt and Trey have been great satirists for other topics though. And their middle-of-the-road, "both sides are bad" leanings doesn't help make the show very strong these days.
The games were really good, but I haven't really enjoyed the show since PC Principal showed up. I feel dumb because I don't get the joke, not out of SJW outrage but just genuine confusion. The last episode I can remember being genuinely funny was The City Part of Town, the one where South Park was gentrified.

I think South Park should stay away from the anti-PC stuff this year because it's going to be trendy. I've noticed a big swing against PC policing of comedy since the Chappelle Netflix thing and then Bill Burr just did it too. Which is great because I'm tired of the "we should only be enjoying Hannah Gadsby" type stuff you see in thinkpieces. But then if the new trend is "Oh yeah, I went there. Try to cancel me, America!" that's going to be lousy too because it's just as predictable as "Trump is fat and orange" stuff.

But that's not a problem for South Park. The Simpsons only started sucking ass when when the creator had a new show. (which even if the new show wasn't better in EVERY SINGLE measurable way than the old one, which it was) If Futurama came out and sucked, the Simpsons would have still sucked. But Futurama was the best thing any American has/will have done since the founding of the country untill well after we're all dead. ABSOLUTELY PERFECT, and the timing was even better.Bandit wrote: Fri Sep 13, 2019 9:45 pmSouth Park isn't what it used to be because it's hard to be relevant when you're 50 years old doing the same thing you were doing when you were 30 years old. BUT, South park gets a pass from me up till season 21, it's just getting a little old. Because any time Matt and Trey have a new project, its FUCKING AMAZING, and even if south park is getting old, I'll blindly support anything they do simply because I've never been given a reason to doubt. They've kept South Park enjoyable LONG AFTER its expiration date. In fact, only one other animated show ever stayed relevant for more than 10 years, which was king of the hill at 13, so south park getting to 21 before I started to question its validity was quite an achievement. If the ruler of the free world didn't think NUKING HURRICANES was an option, south park would still have a place...
But again, the RULER OF THE FREE WORLD thinks using nuclear weapons on weather patterns will be effective... HOW IN THE FUCK CAN ANY COMEDY WRITER COMPETE WITH THAT????
But just take any Celebrity who's work you love, or even know.
There's always a moment on a new project you stroke your chin and think HMMMMM...
There's only 3 names in the ENTIRE entertainment world that I've never stroked my chin and pondered if they knew what they were doing, even for a second: Matt Stone, Trey Parker, and Mike Judge.
When those names have a new project, I will love simply no question. because they have never faltered...
South Parks biggest problem is keeping them (Matt and Trey) back from new things they could be doing instead.
And yes, there's plenty of people who keep doing awesome work, but Even the great Matt Groening, Adam Reed, Steven Levitan, Doug Naylor and Graham Linehan have ALL had moments where you stroke your chin and think, ARE YOU SURE...
But how can you compete with LET'S NUKE HURRICANES.. YOU CAN'T MAKE SHIT THAT FUNNY UP!!!!
