Some of Herbie Hancock's best works are from his days recording and releasing albums in the Japan. Directstep has a really tight version of I Thought It Was You:

Yep. IIRC Directstep was a Japan exclusive album. Think it's part of the Herbie albums box set which was released a few years back though. His move into Funk-Jazz fusion really paid off for him too and he was an early Hip Hop pioneer too with Rockit.
