What happened when Jim Crockett Promotions produced its first ever live Pay-Per-View featuring Lex Luger chasing Ric Flair for his coveted NWA World Championship belt?

Kris & David are joined by Phil Schneider (Segunda Caida) this week to discuss the week that was February 22-28, 2001. We talk about the ongoing problems with WCW's potential sale to Fusient along with everything else going on with the dying promotion. We also look at everything Japan, the birth of Matrats, the scene in Mexico & Puerto Rico, and even some MMA, including RINGS King of Kings and Zuffa’s first UFC card. Then Phil joins us to discuss the burgeoning U.S. Indie scene including the Super 8 tournament which made American Dragon & Low-Ki stars. We then close with a huge WWF section featuring the firing of Stacy Carter and the resignation of Jerry Lawler after the No Way Out PPV. This is a absolutely loaded show and a must listen!!!

I agree with Conrad: Bruce is leaving something out. The story doesn't make sense. I'm thinking he really did pull the gun on somebody joking around. He's old school so assumed they'd just laugh it off and never say anything, but the writers aren't from the business so they made a big deal about it.

He would have said it if he did, there's no reason to hide it now. Taking a gun to work is still a weird thing to do though.

He still wants to go back. He mentioned something about looking for work after leaving TNA and Stephanie telling him they didn't have any spots. He'd look worse to her if he admits he lied.

6:05 Superpodcast Episode 63: Bowdren The Booker

The Superpodcast is back with it’s longest episode ever! Join The Great Brian Last and this week’s co-host Jeff Bowdren, author of Breaking Kayfabe: Dinner with the Legends of Wrestling, for a ride of the Mothership. This episode features:

– Part two of our discussion with The Grappler! In this installment, Lynn Denton tells us about how he was paired with Tony Anthony to form both The Grapplers and the Dirty White Boys. We talk about their runs in Southwest, Memphis and Mid South. Lynn also shares his memories of booking in Kansas City, the scariness of Killer Karl Kox, riding with Rick Rude and the death of Gino Hernandez. As always with The Grappler, it’s a fun and informative talk!

– Sportscaster John WIlsbach joins the show to discuss a WWF charity show he brought to his high school in March of 1983. This is a cool look into how schools worked with the WWF to put on shows shortly before the company expanded nationally. John shares the story of how this show came to take place, which was during the height of Jimmy Snuka’s popularity. John also recites the Don Muraco and Lou Albano promos that were sent to the school to promote the event!

– Dolph Ramseur of Ramseur Records joins the show to discuss growing up in the Carolinas watching Mid Atlantic Wrestling and why he chose to be the first sponsor of The Superpodcast!

– TGBL & Bowdren The Booker talk about name topics, including 1986 UWF, some of wrestling’s most hard hitting angles, mid-1980’s Florida, Ted DiBiase, Tully Blanchard, Lex Luger, the wardrobe of Tommy Rich. Jeff also talks about his elevator run in with Bull Nakano, his old Observer column and his new book, which is our Book Of The Week!

The Piper episode is one of Bruce's best. The OJ story was incredible. I always thought they just had his agent talk to them so they could tell the media and get publicity. But he says Vince personally talked to OJ and said "Roddy is probably going to hurt you because he hates you. But you're going to make a lot of money." Although OJ was a lot bigger than Roddy so maybe he would have gotten the better of him. Or snuck a knife in his boot.

The whole section on Sultan vs Rocky Maivia is hysterical. The only thing that has ever redeemed that awful match. And the Vince driving in the storm story was hilarious.

I haven't listened to the episode yet. It is an enjoyable podcast though. So is the show below, especially when it features a delightful Klondike Bill story.

6:05 Superpodcast Episode 64: Beat Me If You Can

The Mothership has landed again and it’s time for another episode of the 6:05 Superpodcast! The Great Brian Last is joined this week by listener favorite Kurt Brown for a packed show featuring:

– Part Three of our talk with Lynn “The Grappler” Denton, which focuses on The Grappler’s time working in Portland for Don Owen. We hear about the what it’s like to be both the lead heel and the booker in a territory. The Grappler tells us about dealing with Billy Jack Haynes running opposition, as well as his later experience having to fire Billy Jack. We also hear the stories of what caused The Grappler to get fired as booker and immediately re-hired as the assistant booker to Roddy Piper, what a young Scotty The Body (Raven) was like and who beat him up when he was fired, dealing with a difficult Athletic Commission, as well as Lynn’s brief tenure with WCW. As always with The Grappler, this is a really fun and informative talk!

– Marty Goldstein joins the show to discuss his battles with a corrupt Athletic Commission in Manitoba and how he exposed them. Marty lays out exactly how the Commission doctored papers in an attempt to rip off promoters. We also hear about which former wrestler called Marty to threaten him for trying to do the right thing!

– TGBL & Kurt talk about a number of topics including lots of Dr. Jerry Graham stories, The Hangman, the Fred Blassie Fan Club, Dick Lane and much more!

Kris & David are guestless this week talking about the week that was March 22-28, 1991. We talk about WrestleMania VII and the big angles involving Randy Savage, Ultimate Warrior, Hulk Hogan, Sgt. Slaughter, and others. We also look at all of the controversy regarding Tatsumi Fujinami and Ric Flair regarding the NWA Title, Konnan losing his mask to Perro Aguayo and working WWF dark matches the same week, and Sid Vicious preparing to leave WCW. A very fun show, so check it out!!!!

I'm sure Tony will always have a Klondike Bill story, because how could the women have ever resisted this sexy man any day from the years he knew him?
